Passionflower, lemon balm, skullcap, and chamomile are other popular remedies for disturbed sleeping. I have tried them all and found them to be effective, especially when taken with Pürblack Live Resin. Pürblack does work better than any shilajit I previously tried. These herbs are much more mild, and I would recommend something stronger for people with severe insomnia. These are more for mild insomnia induced by occasional stress or unusual activity, or just to enhance the relaxing vibes of your evening.
Kava is another promising alternative. Please see our article on Kava Kava for further information.
Meditation and the amino acid L-theanine both work (albeit through different modalities) to change the type of brain waves dominating your consciousness. Light meditation & theanine work to increase generation of alpha brain waves; these promote calm, focused, yet alert states of mind. Deep meditation increases theta waves, which is akin to being in a very deep trance. These methods are not directly sedating, but harmonize with your body to drastically reduce the stress levels & mental chatter you are experiencing. It is quite difficult to fall asleep while thinking of the mountain of bills you are behind on, or all that you must accomplish in the following day. Not only does Pürblack allow one to enter deep meditation more quickly and deeper, but it also increases the uptake of orally administered theanine supplements. In addition, shilajit possesses powerful healthy and natural anxiolitic & calming properties all of its own. Isn’t synergy magical?
One of the most powerful tools in my own personal quest for healthy sleep has been consistent yoga practice. I would find often as I laid in my bed late at night, I would be overflowing with excess energy that prevented my from feeling relaxed. It felt like an accumulation of residue from all the emotionally charged interactions with people & my environment during that day and days prior. In my mind, yoga is 90% waste removal. Meaning, the primary focus I have when practicing is to clear pent up, negative emotions from their resting place in my muscles. It is as if my body is a chamois, and the emotional build up is water. Yoga is the process of twisting the chamois & wringing out all of the water. Who wants to lay in bed late at night as a sopping wet chamois? Of course, as Pürblack allows for 3-4x the rate of regeneration of bones, muscles, & connective tissues, it is a fantastic accompaniment to yoga. Out with the old, in with the new!
Minerals play a fundamental role in one’s ability to function as a healthy human being and are perhaps even more foundational than vitamins. Estimates state that approximately 80% of Americans are deficient in Magnesium, the second most abundant element found in your cells! Magnesium plays a pivotal role in allowing your body & muscles to relax. When I hear of someone having issues with sleeping properly, hemp seeds & Pürblack are often the first things I recommend consuming. Hemp seeds are the number one dietary source on the planet for organically bound magnesium. Furthermore, hemp seeds contain:
– Soluble dietary fiber
– Vitamins A, D, & E
– Plant sterols & antioxidants
– All the essential amino acids in a highly bioavailable form
– Perfectly balanced ratios of omega-3 to omega-6 fatty acids [1:3 is ideal]
Taken with Pürblack, these nutrients work much better. Further enlivened by the abundance of ionic minerals found in high-end shilajit, this combination kills two birds with one stone. On one hand, it is doing massive healing for your mind & body, and on the other the synergy off these elements combine in a vortex of sleep-inducing energy.
It is very odd (well, perhaps it makes perfect sense) that hemp is illegal to grow in the U.S.. Not only does hemp fix nitrogen in topsoil, but it also provides building materials for clothing, fuel, rope, paper, & various other items. Surely legalization is on the horizon, as the food & resources from this plant are quintessential to restoring individual & environmental health. Other excellent sources of magnesium include raw cacao, raw cashews, chia seeds, leafy greens, and practically anything else with dietary fiber. I recommend hemp seeds & cashews, above all else, as it is hard to meet the body’s needs for magnesium otherwise. Consumption of stimulant drugs, caffeine, and alcohol put you at particularly high risk for magnesium deficiency.
